I think people who use non-smoothed fonts keep their eyes healthy longer than those who use smoothed fonts. I've been setting my display fonts on different devices to non-smoothed and while I searched for the ways to do that I've found numerous comments of people, who just like me prefer non-smoothed fonts, claiming smoothed fonts don't help at all.

Is there any serious research on that matter?

Might be on topic on Biology or Skeptics (with a sufficient claim citing relevant sources for the latter one). – Informaficker Sep 12 '12 at 17:11
I think skeptics would be a good fit (With the attendant references) – JohnP Sep 12 '12 at 17:30
Agree, without citations Skeptics won't want this question. I suggest reposting there with citations added. – Greg Sep 12 '12 at 21:11

Ugh; I couldn't look at aliased fonts all day. – Dave Newton Sep 12 '12 at 23:29
