Periodization is a training technique that attempts to time workouts in accordance with the body's ability to recover, so that new stimulus occurs whenever the body is at an optimum state of recovery, and never when the body is still strongly weakened from a previous effort. Typically the term is only applied to workout plans that have a complete period of a week or longer, and this level of periodization is mostly appropriate for intermediate trainees.
