comment Tight triceps: should I rest or continue swimming?
Rule of thumb: if the muscle feels better after ~10 minutes of exercise, it's ok to work it. If it still hurts, stop and rest.

comment How can I correctly log the calorie burn of circuit routines?
Personally, I just add a note "Tabata" or "circuit" so that future me knows why I managed so few reps. Then again, I track mostly because of myself, I don't really care about the points (tbh, though, the amount of points from my Tabata burpees is minuscule compared to my rock climbing, so eh).

comment How do I squat if I can't keep my heels on the floor?
@Kate That test looks cool, what are some expected values? All I've found is that <10 cm is considered restricted.

I've heard that the "Greyskull LP" program is designed to focus more on upper-body while using the same concepts as SS. Check it out.

comment What exercises would make up the minimum, complete, general fitness workout?
@HerrKaputt If you check the SS wiki, they have an alternative program with pull-ups. I believe it's taken from the "Practical Programming" book. Additionally, there's a program that's "actually taught by Rippetoe at the gym" and I believe that one also includes pull-ups.
