comment Looking to gain weight by putting on muscle
Stop eating chocolate and crisps, start eating metric tons of real food, lift heavy, sleep like it's your job, and check out the link Kate posted. Should work.

@Trungmanator It's good that you're enthusiastic, but answers don't need to have scientific evidence. Leaving a comment on one or two answers about that is fine, but especially with new users, you're asking for way too much.

comment How can I increase the weight I take when weight training?
Informaficker is right; you need to describe your entire exercise program, diet, sleep and stress patterns in detail for us to have any chance of debugging what's the matter.

comment Can adding a weight vest improve fat loss?
I'll bet the trainer told her to stop wearing the vest while running in order to minimize joint damage. That's not necessarily a bad idea, but it doesn't have anything to do with effectiveness for fat loss.

comment Are there papers about Starting Strength or Strong lifts?
As far as I know papers and studies don't really get written on specific popular exercise routines. However, linear progression is based on the SAID principle and supercompensation, which are good terms to research.

comment What is the best way to train at the gym for weight loss purposes?
@GetFitChimp My understanding is that the best ways to increase bone density are load-bearing exercise (squats, deadlifts, etc) and impact (jumping, running). The 65-year-old osteoporitic lady can be convinced like anyone else: by researching it, by taking my word for it, or by trying it.
