I lift, train combat sports, and am interested in any physical or outdoor culture.

comment Dangerous to use barbell squat without padding?
@MattChan I think personal experience squatting heavy weights with no padding addresses the relationship between padding and lifting. So does noting that lifting competitions don't use padding.

Good question, and congrats on your overhead press, but I'm not sure if we have the answer. You may have better results on reddit.com/r/leangains or other leangains-specific forums.

+1 for deadlifts. That may be the most important component.

"soreness" is a dangerously misleading descriptor for what's going on here

comment Is working out localized muscle going to help burn fat in that area more than building up overall muscle mass?
I understand how the first study relates (though not to the magnitude or usefulness of the effect), but the other two don't seem to me to be relevant to spot reduction at first skim.

From what I recall of what I believe are the same studies, the spot-reduction-relevant increase was minimal.

comment What are the most efficient exercises for balanced workout
OK. Even knowing where you are now would clarify things in my head. I don't know whether my inability to conceive of rest periods that short is due to my failings or the fact that recovering from a ~BW deadlift is different than recovering from a 2xBW deadlift.

Your proposed program is very close to a program I was doing recently. Neat. But what about vertical pushes in the downward direction, i.e. dips?

The five-minute time span compels me to ask: what kind of weights have you been able to progress to with this method?
