comment Why are pyramid sets often advised for bodyweight exercises?
@Raphael I left variations on BW exercises outside the scope of my answer, since the question was more concerned with the reason why pyramid was useful. But yes, for some (though not all) exercises, you can make it more intense by adding weight (weighted dips vs dips) or by using a different variation of the exercise (1 hand push up vs standard)

comment Hit my fat percentage wall, help me out I would give it all
@howtechstuffworks bodyfat scales can be widely inaccurate, and answers can be hugely variable depending on when you measure, the scale, it's quality, and many other external factors. Using calipers would be a preferred method (can get for less than $5 on Amazon). And what Lego probably meant was that if you are cheating 3 out of 7 days then that no longer counts as a cheat because it's simply too frequent to call it anything other than part of a poor diet.

@s3v3ns while I am certainly no fan of crossfit, it definitely is not the problem here. I would go even further and suggest that dropping crossfit for oly lifting would even be counter-productive. The goal here is fat loss, and they are following a cardio program, so it follows that the problem would most likely be in the diet.

comment How should I interpret this performance standards table?
Please be aware that these tables are based off of your 1RM (one rep max), not your current work weight in the Starting Strength program. If you don't know your 1RM you can use this 1RM Calculator to estimate it based off of how many reps you can do of your current work weight.

comment Should i do weight lifting for building muscles? I am already doing kickboxing on weekdays
@s3v3ns Have you ever seen a tiny tree with huge limbs? You don't, because it's not natural. Doing isolation exercises to get huge arms and such encounters the same problem. Compound, full-body lifts is the best way to get real muscle growth as a beginner. Once you have develop the base and move to intermediate stage, that is when isolation routines start holding actual value.

@s3v3ns 7+ reps is more geared towards muscle, whereas 3-5 reps would be more appropriate for strength training. @ Marten I agree that adding a workout routine on top of 5 days of intense cardio can potentially be too much. Listen to your body, start with light weights, and be sure to eat and sleep well.

comment Is my training regime going to build muscle mass?
No workout is complete without squats. If you don't have a barbell, then buy dumbbell / kettlebell for weighted squats. If you want bodyweight only, then try pistol squats. And going into more detail on push ups, I'd suggest trying incline, "clapping," or one-handed to get the higher intensity and lower volume.

comment Healthy way of losing leg muscle
@LegoStormtroopr I am not even remotely close to what you would call a bodybuilder, but going off the nhlbi.nih index I am a 35 BMI. If I actually ate over my TDEE I would easily be 40 BMI (extreme obesity). For reference I hover around 10-12% BF. Being classified as morbidly obese on BMI is certainly not unthinkable.

comment Build muscle in Arms
I would add that the heavier (more obese) you are, the more your fat will hide/obscure the muscle that you've built.

comment Will taking the stairs daily improve fitness for an obese adult
@LauraJ there is a lot of carryover between stair climbing and hiking / walking, so yes the more you stair flights you climb as part of a daily routine, the more adapted you will be when it comes time to hike / walk in park with your daughter.

comment six months and no major change in losing fat
If you're stalling on weight loss but still dropping bodyfat %, all that means is you're just putting on muscle weight while losing fat weight. A 2% drop in bodyfat over just 30 days is great progress, so keep it up!

comment Become a Spartan program from movie 300
Not to be a naysayer, but it will take a lot longer than 8 to 16 weeks to "look like a spartan"
