comment Finding the correct Marathon Pace
@RyanMiller I could never run the 3:30 marathon pace, even in training. I ran a 1:50 half as my best ever. A 47 minute 10K. But never could hold it for long enough.

comment Finding the correct Marathon Pace
I find it amusing that I am a total outlier on Yasso 800's. I have run fairly consistent 800's in training, over 8 years or so, around 3:30's. But my best Marathon time ever is 4:07. But then I accept I am an outlier on many things. (Big and heavy).

comment Going to compete 5km outdoor breaststroke
@Ruben Darn. There is a cool 1 Mile swim Brooklyn to Manhattan, under the Brooklyn bridge, then 1.2 Miles around Liberty Island, 3M across the Hudson at the Tappen-Zee bridge, here in NY/NJ. My longest is on 2.4K at Ironman,.

comment How to avoid hyponatremia(drinking too much water) when hiking?
@Gapton The main reason for non-table salt sources is that it can be pretty hard to take at times. Sometimes you can, sometimes you cannot. Getting it in food is a lot easier and more palatable. However sometimes it can be hard to get enough salt any other way.

comment How to organise a second weekly run session?
To be fair Tempo is not necessarily on a track. I prefer to do it on the street, where I bike out, mark with chalk, spray chalk the K marks. Then set out two or three such routes and rotate through them.

comment Realistic best time for 5k?
I am 6'2" as well, but at 235lbs my 5K best time was 23:00 or so. But that was after a long season of speed work (reps of 200, 400, 800 or 1600 meters on the track) once a week and a tempo run every week. Took a lot of work to get there.

comment How far should I go on my first cycle?
My son is not allowed to pick his bike up from the wall without his helmet on. No helmet no bike. Its simple.

comment How do I maintain my breath while swimming?
@JohnP Good point. I was just suggesting a common pattern of 3 breathes per stroke. Every second stroke can help in the short term to get used to the breathing. Of course, for anearobic sprints, all bets are off.

@JohnP Point taken, alas I fear this may end poorly.

comment Marathon - How to train for a marathon in 12 weeks?
Good advice, but there is so much here that needs more info, and there is so much risk (Which you declare) that I would be concerned with this attempt in general.

comment Marathon - How to train for a marathon in 12 weeks?
@JohnP I personally have been doing the Run/Walk thing since I started and swear by it, but even then 12 weeks is SO very tight. It could be this is a 18 year old young feller, in perfect shape, who can do it. Or it could be a 30 year person whose mind is writing cheques his body may not be able to cash. Tricky.

comment Reduce sweat rate?
@MattChan Weigh yourself dry before you start. Track drinking (and avoid peeing if you can). weigh yourself at the end and do the math.

comment Is there a recommended running technique if you're overweight?
@pjmorse I would qualify his comment, such as to exclude finger joints perhaps, but legs, most of your core, and much of your arms are affected, just due to the physical impact on each foot fall.

Like the doctor says, if it doesn't hurt, stop complaining! No wait, it hurts when I do this, so the doctor says, Stop doing that.

I would suspect that what you call a 'bite' is not a cramp in that case. But what? Dunno.

comment Can I hurt myself or my heart by running too hard or in bad weather conditions?
@Joe Blow: Even funnier, he says if he leaves his bike outside at that temp, the wheels freeze into having a flat spot. He needs different bearing grease, but otherwise is fine.

comment Looking for good alternate to salt pills during exercise
Will have to look into these. My issue is it needs to be kosher as well, which I updated the original question to reflect.
