comment Unusual heart rates and fitness
Nowadays I can easily run over 1 hour with a heart rate above 180, and this does not feel like a hard workout. How could this be if my aerobic threshold was below 150? It doesn't make sense.

comment Advice for improving metabolism burn: how do we keep it in high gear?
It's done in intervals (HIIT). There are studies where the benefits of HIIT (compared to training at 70% of max) have been shown even for heart failure patients, so I don't think you have to be terribly fit to make it work. Note that less calories are burned during HIIT, but metabolic changes lead to increased fat loss; the exact nature of this process is still not well understood.

This is generally accepted, but incorrect. Most effective exercise for fat loss is at >90% of Max HR: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2991639

Not specific enough. It's like asking how to find the right job.

comment Why do compound exercises build more mass than isolation exercises?
Think about it like this: Entering the gym, you have a certain "growth budget" for your muscles, which is gone pretty fast, with just a few compound exercises. Anything you do after that simply distributes the total growth among other muscles, but there's nothing you can do to further increase it.

There's a limit to how much total mass your body can build per day, and that limit is easily reached with compound exercises. Hypertrophy does not require you to fully exhaust your muscles... a supporting role is often sufficient, the hypertrophy will just be smaller. This is a good thing, since you want to grow your muscles in the right proportions, not every muscle equally.

comment Is it preferrable to run on toes?
I understood "running on toes" to mean literally running ONLY on your toes, without letting the other part of the foot, even the front, touch the ground at all. Maybe I was mistaken, but I don't think the poster was clear on that. I agree that barefoot running is great.

comment Any fitness issues of child taking up jogging?
It's true that running is a poor kind of exercise. HIIT would be the way to go, I just didn't think it likely that the poster would consider that for his 6 yo...

comment Do fit or muscular people age better?
One comment about sacropenia: This is a bit misleading. Muscle mass can be increased substantially at any age with proper training. The observation that higher age is associated with lower muscle mass is merely statistical. It becomes harder to gain muscle as you age, but it's never impossible, and muscle loss is never inevitable.

Ok I see what you mean. I guess I was confused because I'd never consider there'd be anything harmful about it. Generally speaking, if she can do it, there's no harm to it.

Despite popular belief that turkey has a particularly high amount of tryptophan, the amount of tryptophan in turkey is typical of most poultry. (Source: Wikipedia)

comment Four day training for strength
HIIT is not a warmup, it's the exact opposite. I'd say don't do HIIT and strength training on the same day unless you're extremely fit.

What kind of workout, and what advantages? Are we talking fat loss, muscle gain, performance gain? What's the goal?

comment Is it necessary to eat supplements for Bodybuilding?
No such thing as "nutrient quality". A molecule is a molecule, your body doesn't care where it's coming from. Let's not confuse science and superstition. If "natural" is always better, why not eat some poisonous mushrooms? Mother earth has given them to us, so let's enjoy their fruity flavor. Personally I'll stick with science.

Many bodybuilders stretch after their workouts, I've never heard anything about negative effects.
