comment How do gymnasts and dancers remain so slim, yet so agile and strong?
Agree with both these points, however the main points of this answer are correct - weight and specific practice are key. I can speak as a former 200lb wanna-be gymnast (I was once the worst vaulter in the entire NCAA! :-))

comment When starting weights, do I need to take breaks?
Excellent answer. It's amazing how much progress you'll be able to make (in everything, not just strength) with one of those barbell programs and reasonable nutrition. Toss out the "routine" - looks like a giant time-waster!

Don't go into this with a "though not by much" attitude. You want to be as strong as you can be, and shooting high will get you to "normal" much more effectively. Good luck!

Tiny quibble: mood altering (i.e. roid rage) may be a myth - claim by Bigger Stronger Faster (interesting video on facts & myths of steroids)

comment Can I skip carbohydrates altogether?
I don't have a reference handy, but as an inspiration for another answer I would look into correlations between very low carb intake and lowered testosterone.

This would be a better answer if an overview of your recommended routines were given. The links to the books and to your website can be given as a follow-up for more detail, but should not "linkwall" the actual answer.

@Ben Nope, I threw this out as bunk a long time ago. I think that Berin is onto something: maybe this could work for a novice. However, almost anything can work for a novice, so I am not a believer.

comment Building muscle and trimming fat at same time? bulking/cutting phases?
As a beginner, you probably CAN lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. Consider barbell training (squats, deadlifts, presses) to replace some of the isolation exercise I infer that you're doing - and I would do the weights before cardio (else you're too tired out to really build strength). Good luck!

comment How many pounds of water retention will be caused by 2300 mg of sodium?
I suspect there are way, way too many confounding factors to answer this in vivo. What is your current electrolyte balance (not just sodium, but all of them)? How hydrated were you? How quickly is that sodium digested, and in what form? How hot is it outside? How much will you sweat? I think you get the idea...
