Combine those workouts, and you could do 6 Minute Abs! If you don't get a good workout, the 7th minute is free. :-)

comment When do you recommend using a belt for deadlifts?
Since posting this, I have found that occasional belt use can help with heavier loads - gives your abs something to push off of. However, I still do much without the belt.

comment Can Starting Strength be done by women realistically?
Make sure you're eating enough. If you are dieting, Rippetoe would say You're Not Doing The Program.

comment Taking Protein powder with Artificial sweeteners?
Agreed, as it stands: should you stick to natural powders for what reason? If you think there's a performance tie-in, then it would fit here, but it appears to be about general health concerns, which is not in scope for this site.

comment I am on the Atkins diet and weightlifting everyday, what is this doing to my body?
Just don't confuse low-carb with low-calorie. Though you may find you do lose some fat, SS is a strength program, NOT a weight loss program, and you'll hamper your results if you don't eat enough.

Questions about general health and nutrition when not directly concerning exercise/fitness are off-topic for this site.

comment How do gymnasts and dancers remain so slim, yet so agile and strong?
Agree with both these points, however the main points of this answer are correct - weight and specific practice are key. I can speak as a former 200lb wanna-be gymnast (I was once the worst vaulter in the entire NCAA! :-))

comment When starting weights, do I need to take breaks?
Excellent answer. It's amazing how much progress you'll be able to make (in everything, not just strength) with one of those barbell programs and reasonable nutrition. Toss out the "routine" - looks like a giant time-waster!

Don't go into this with a "though not by much" attitude. You want to be as strong as you can be, and shooting high will get you to "normal" much more effectively. Good luck!
