comment How can I reconcile the need for rest with “greasing the groove” on pull ups?
@michael, thanks for the rope+weight tip, hadn't ever thought about doing assisted pullups that way.

comment What are the differences between Paleo and Atkins diets?
I would add that the fatty meat thing depends largely on whose Paleo you follow. I think Cordain wrote originally that you should eat low fat meats, but there are quite a few Paleo celebrities who don't seem to mind the fat. Richard Nikoley of the Free the Animal fame comes to mind.

comment How can I gain weight and muscle weight?
This is a great answer and I would add gymnastic rings to the pull-up bar. Great way to improve upper body and core as most moves use a lot of different muscles. Check out books like Building the Gymnastic Body where the aim is to build strength through moving to more difficult movements(as opposed to just doing more of the same) as you get better. Examples of the exercises can be found around the net, but the progressions are explained very clearly in the book.

comment What does it mean to “boost your metabolism”?
It should be noted that increased muscle mass boosts BMR very little. The effect is along the lines of 10 cal per pound of extra muscle mass, if my recollection is correct. The effect is more pronounced when you really use those muscles.
