Sr Applications Developer @ jp2code.net

Years ago, I left home and joined the United States Marine Corps where I was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty of Basic Metal Worker (MOS 1316). I loved building things as a welder, but could not see myself doing this until I reached age 65.

After my Honorable Discharge in the early 1990s, I used my G.I. Bill to go to school and received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics four years later.

Using a love of computers since I played on a Commodore 64 at 10 years old and two (2) C++ electives that I had taken in school, I began working in the computer programming field.

The recession following ENRON in 2001 left me working at a remedial job for a little over two years while I brushed up on my skills at a local community college in SQL and first learned what the new .NET Framework was all about.

I have had the pleasure of working as a Software Developer since 2003.

For a short while, I pulled in a little extra income by running a moonlighting business under the name Joe's Welding. Dangerous working conditions and non-paying customers prompted me to sell my mobile welding equipment about the time my son was born.

Today, I am exclusively a Software Developer. My language of choice is C#, and I enjoy working with databases.

Where I am not known by my code, I am known by my motorcycle: I am one of the few riders who loves the Harley-Davidson XR1200. Pictures of my modified XR are posted on websites around the world, and I go by the screen name JoeP on the XR1200 Owner's Group.

comment Breakfast on Morning of Race
I'd vote for eating a bowl of oatmeal. There is decent protein there, and it takes oatmeal longer to process than the fruit salad and jam (I'd think the sugars from those would be burned off before you started the run).

You are reading too much into it, JohnP. If a person's system is unable to process a full 80 g of protein, whatever does not get stored as fat gets discarded as bodily waste - just like most other foods. Also, I'm not saying 20-30 g of protein per hour all day long, but that there is no need in exceeding that amount in a given time frame.

I've never heard about that 24 hour window before. Does anyone have a reference for it?

comment Do I lose muscle mass if I do anaerobic exercises throughout my diet?
After about 30 minutes of cardio, your body has burned out of the sugars stored in your blood. Then, it gets energy where it can. That can come from converting fat or muscle to energy.

comment 40/40/20 Ratio and 1.5g of protein per pound still a good rule of thumb?
LOL - and now we develop software. I don't think Arnold regrets too much of his past. It was all a stepping stone to make him who he is today.

All of those statements I made were preceded with reasons that you conveniently neglected to mention.

comment How do I squat if I can't keep my heels on the floor?
Frankly, that's what I'm wondering. If he starts doing squats with the Smith machine, that will force him all the way down, stretching his ligaments, and enabling him to eventually be able to squat down with his heels flat on the floor without weights. You and Kate don't seem to understand this.
