Software Developer @ jp2code.net

Long ago, I left home and joined the United States Marine Corps where I was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty of Basic Metal Worker (MOS 1316). I loved building things as a welder, but could not see myself doing this until I reached age 65.

After my Honorable Discharge in the early 1990s, I used my G.I. Bill to go to school and received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics four years later.

Using a love of computers since I played on a Commodore 64 at 10 years old and two (2) C++ electives that I had taken in school, I began working in the computer programming field.

The recession following ENRON in 2001 left me working at a remedial job for a little over two years while I brushed up on my skills at a local community college in SQL and first learned what the new .NET Framework was all about.

I have had the pleasure of working as a Software Developer since 2003.

For a short while, I pulled in a little extra income by running a moonlighting business under the name Joe's Welding. Dangerous working conditions and non-paying customers prompted me to sell my mobile welding equipment about the time my son was born.

Today, I am exclusively a Software Developer. My language of choice is C#, and I enjoy working with databases.

If you care to find me anywhere else, just do a search on my screen name: jp2code

comment Any authoritative references for strength training nutrition requirements?
Interesting idea for a book. Essentially, what you would have would be a huge book with a flow chart. If you are this way, turn to page X; if you are that way, turn to page Y. That would continue on until you reach the end of the author's list, where he would reward you with your specific eating goal. However, I don't think that exists.

comment Is this heart rate too high for a beginner runner?
Also, keep in mind that actual Heart Rates fluctuate with different body types (tall & thin, short & thin, tall & thick, short & thick). These HR scales are trying to give you a guideline.

comment How should I prepare for a marathon on an elliptical machine?
How does one keep from going bonkers when stuck on an elliptical machine for that long? I could only take so much SpongeBob.

comment What would I need to track fitness effort?
Perhaps (load better than effort), but I still no longer really understand what you are looking for some software to do.

comment How Can I Heal/Prevent Jumper's (Patellar Tendinitis) Knee?
I'd tend to guess you didn't rest quite long enough. If you are really needing to get back into the game, there are cortisone shots. If you are juicing, deca durabolin is an excellent lubrication.

Yeah, I originally had bends and thrusts in there, but I didn't want to scare the guy too much.

comment How to accurately measure muscle mass versus body fat?
Hey Sarge. How exactly does this technique tell you where you are in terms of muscle and fat? I used a technique similar to this years back, and I was unknowingly starving my body and losing muscle tissue.

comment How to accurately measure muscle mass versus body fat?
They are more accurate than some high school kid at the gym desk who doesn't know how to correctly measure with skin calipers, and these devices are hundreds of dollars less than installing a hydrostatic water tank to measure body fat. The OP never said he wanted/needed extreme precision.

If he wants more size, he needs more calories. That is his answer.

comment What is good workout attire for weight lifting?
Good answer. I would add: Wear white socks, not the argyles you wear under your slacks.

comment Running in boots comfortably down mountain trails
Shorter stride. That's what I was going to say. I would also recommend finding a good performance boot, if you must run in boots. There are some very good running boots out there! Bates Durashocks are a nice compromise between performance and price, but there are many others.

Perhaps you could word your question a little better.

comment What's the best back exercise to balance out the dumbbell press from the profile?
Narrow grip should produce thicker (front to back) back muscles while the wider grip should help give you better lat wings.

comment What's the best back exercise to balance out the dumbbell press from the profile?
Well, they feel different because they work the muscle differently. The best answer is to do both: Narrow grips one day; wide grips the next time. Change it up. Try not to ever do the same exercise twice.

comment How deep should a squat be?
I don't really understand your statement, @friz. Just stand in front of a mirror while doing squats, and you can get pretty close. I don't worry if I've over-extended to 91° or if I cheated myself by only going to 89°. I always use proper form.
