@DaveLiepmann why are you recommending gulping down milk as a good food for protein intake? It contains 3.5% protein. Chicken & beef are far better for you and aren't loaded with lactose and naturally occurring hormones designed to put fat on a calf quickly.

@Moses whats so wrong with his diet? Its far better than the crap most people eat. I could have recommended some other foods but I didn't because it is good enough and we are trying to write succinct answers here.

@Uds exactly! Some people make bad decisions with their diet because they don't see the scales go up (or down) even though they may be losing fat and gaining muscle. Pinching just gives you more information on whats happening to your body. Congratz on the progress! P.S. Its great to hear someone talking in kilograms!! :)

comment Is it true that Diet is far more effective than Exercise for fat loss?
-1 @EAO Do you really think running 10 miles a day is for everyone?! I've never run more than 3 miles in one go in my life and to be honest I don't want to. Its boring, joint sheering, & muscle catabolising. Whats easier - to do a little less of something (eating) or to do a thousand times more of something (exercise)? I think we know the answer to that question.

Weight training leaves you with a more favourable body composition without joint wearing, muscle eating, boring cardio. If I was fat and someone told me I had to do 2 hours of cardio every day - I most likely would never do it! +1 million though for the dedication and weight loss though!!

+1 for a great answer.

@AaronMcIver your statement is very false. The endurance capacity of a muscle harnesses a different energy metabolism and is largely separate from the power capacity. Long distance runners and sprinters both "push muscle beyond its current limitation" yet one has minimal muscle and the other great muscularity.

comment How bad of a vice is gum chewing?
Half-assing a ketosis diet thinking you are going to get half the results is incorrect. You will get neutral or negative results. One of 2 things will happen, 1) you will be eating tons of fat but still eating enough carbs/protein to stay in a glucose metabolism and you get FAT, 2) you continuously drop in and out of ketosis and you lose muscle and end up skinny/fat. This is because the transition phase (1-2 days) from glucose -> ketones is catabolic to lean tissue (organs, muscle etc). Once in ketosis it is fairly kind to lean tissue. Get into and stay in ketosis quickly or don't bother!

@PhilQuinn your right. Telling someone to eat higher protein is probably good advice, but confusing with ketosis is not. Ketosis is a state your body drops into when you are eating practically zero carbs, low protein, high fat. If you are eating 1000 calories with LOW (not zero) carbs, your body is no better off weight-loss wise than 1000 calories with normal carbs. Protein does keep you feeling full longer (apparently), and your body works harder to convert it to energy, so there are a few tricks that make it worthwhile eating more of it than the other macros.

comment When is the best time to drink PHD Diet Whey Protien
@GraemeHutchison nutrition timing is not that important except for the protein source around workouts (as that anabolic window opens up). Take it whenever you feel like on non-gym days would be my recommendation.

my apologies its me. I didn't mean to though :/. It won't let me vote up unless your 'edited' it apparently. If you want - switch a few words around or add a sentence and I can fix it.

If your growth plates haven't closed yet (check after X-Ray), the doctor can put you on expensive growth hormone injections, but these do not come without possible side effects.

comment Why is muscle size not proportional to strength?
So what energy system does hypotrophy training utilise? Some kind of hybrid between the oxygen & glucose energy systems? I've always thought that all weight training was indiscriminately placed under the anaerobic banner.
