comment What's the ideal way to maintain my deadlift with minimal recovery demands?
What @JohnP said is right. Once a week to failure will maintain deads. I'm a bit unsure on why you want your deads to stop. Its not like you are lifting huge amounts of weight. Deads overlap a lot into squats and they usually gain together. If its a mental thing, and you just need to lay off deads for your sanity (I've done this before) then by all means. That said, I'm doing 20 reps to failure on deads at the beginning of cycle and THAT gets very taxing mentally & physically. Suit yourself.

@DaveLiepmann if you are coming forward on your back squats you must be doing 1 of 2 things. You have the bar too far forward. It should be resting on your scapula and it will feel uncomfortable standing there but it will feel the most comfortable when actually squatting. You also must have the weight back on your heels. You might want to try buying a weight lifting shoe (its healed slightly so it forces you to push your weight through your heals).

comment Do people who lift weights twice per week need less protein than people who lift three times per week?
@NathanWheeler First of all the RDA's are irrelevant and flawed (ESPECIALLY for an athlete). Second of all, your entire answer warns one to tread carefully around protein like its some kind of potentially dangerous substance. This mentality started from people misreading a journal article from the 90s which discussed the maximum uptake of protein into tissue. Excess protein consumed is turned into fat or burned as energy just like the other macronutrients and is not eliminated through urine like the broscience tells us. The benefit of protein above other macronutrients is its thermic effect.

-1 for thoughtless repetition of so-caled "common knowledge". Protein is FOOD not a supplement. Please read wannabebig.com/diet-and-nutrition/…

comment Supplemental exercises for breaking an overhead press plateau
I don't know why everyone thinks this 5x5 fad program is so untouchable. Its just short of the main hypotrophy rep ranges and 5 reps is almost 90% of your rep max. This means you will quickly reach a state where you rate of growth will be less than adding the extra rep or putting up the weight. My advice - rep to failure at about 20 reps and over 4 weeks increase the weight and drop the reps until you get back down to 5. You will be lifting more.

+1 @BerinLoritsch - I find if you feel like you need padding the bar is in the wrong place. Most people have it up their neck. The picture in this answer is perfect.

comment Joint impact of ATG Squats
As long as the crease of your hip is lower than your knee than you are low enough. There are lot of muscular guys doing pitiful squats out there. Low squats HURT! Thats why no one wants to do them.
