I am a semi-retired researcher in public health, working mostly in developing countries, where I see a need for more physical exercise among colleagues (especially in Africa). In addition to push-ups, I power walk 2 miles on most days of the week, swim in Millerton Lake near Fresno and ski at China Peak in the Sierra Nevada. Outside the USA I swam in rivers and lakes in Ethiopia, Egypt, and Brazil. Swimming in the Amazonas River, at the confluence of the Rio Negro (warm water) and the Solimoes (the main western branch of the Amazon River) with its cooler water, was my most exiting swimming experience.
