comment Gain weight while doing sports involving conditioning
@Berin-in gaining muscle mass for an athlete, what could cause cellulite to develop? I know cellulite developes when fat levels increase, but if this weight gained is predominately muscle mass in order to improve performance, how can I explain cellulite? Thanks!

comment Good effect of meal size/timing on later mixed workout performance?
@Berin-in relation to your statement that "having consumed more calories than you expect to burn before training is definitely going to help", does this take into the calories the person is going to consume after the training session? As in, does that calorie intake that shoud be higher than the calories that are going to be burned include foods consumed following the training session? Thanks!

comment How can you tell that you are eating enough to build your muscles?
@Berin-when you say to eat 20% more than maintainance, does this include rest days as well? Should there be a difference in calories consumed for training vs. non training days? Thanks!

comment Rotator cuff strengthening for shoulder overuse injury
@Tushar, I am suffering from the same thing and mine is due to training as a competitive swimmer. Did your doctor say anything about whether your pain will ever disappear or if you need an operation?

comment Importance of Rest Days
@에이바-I recently took two months off (competitive swimming) due to overtraining and three months later, I am forced to take yet more time off due to overtraining again. Do you think this is the same bout of overtraining, and that I just didn't recover from it fully the first time? Any help would be very much appreciated!

@Boris-when gaining muscle, you will invariably also gain a bit of fat in the process? Thanks!

comment Gaining weight without gaining fat
@Berin-good answer! I've recently gained some muscle mass since being underweight. I am a competitive swimmer so this lean muscle mass has been beneficial for my training. But I've also gained a bit of cellulite on my legs - does this mean that I've gained too much fat in the process of gaining lean muscle mass?!?! My clothes all still fit and I am definitely musclier, so where has this cellulite come from? Any help would be very appreciated!

comment Effective ways to decrease recovery time
@MeadeRubenstein, thanks for your answer-I am a competitive athlete ao I am pushing the intensity to pretty unreasonable levels and I give 150% in every training session. I have had to take a break from training for the second time in only six months and am wondering how much pushing myself beyond my limits could contribute to this. People say to not push yourself so hard in training, but I don't understand how I can improve/get faster if I'm not going as close to my racing pace in training as I can get. Any help is much appreciated!

comment Effective ways to decrease recovery time
@MeadeRubenstein, thanks for that - how about in regards to overtraining. Can increasing the intensity too much lead to overtraining if adequate rest/nutrition is not included?

comment Is it necessary to have a rest week?
@Jeremy-great answer! I suffered from overtraining and took two months off from training (competitive swimming). I have been back to training for about three months, and have to take time off again due to overtraining. Is this the same bout of overtraining that I was suffering from? It seems that the two months that I had off did nothing in terms of recoveryl because three months later, I am in exactly the same position as I already have been.Is this going to be a continous process?? Any advice would be very much appreciated!

comment What are some signs of overtraining?
@Ardvark-just a quick question on your post - I stopped training (competitive swimmming) for two months due to overtraining. I've been back training now for about three months and have had to stop again due to overtraining (again). Do you think the overtraining never really left in the first place? I am definitely erring on the side of caution, more this time than the last time. Do you think this will be a continuous occurance? Thanks!

comment Effective ways to decrease recovery time
@Meade, I am just wondering if I increasing the intensity of my workouts, won't this then cause my recovery time to be longer? Or does the body condition itself to recover at a faster rate?

comment Are quick recovery supplements worth using?
@Robin-I heard that consuming a protein shake high in carbs can lead to weight gain if you don't compensate by reducing calories elsewhere in the diet. Is this true? Should protein shakes be high protein, low carbs?

comment What to expect in terms of post-exercise fatigue and what to do about it
@ Steve Worthham, just a question regarding your post - how do you determine when you reach this 'tipping point'? As in, how can I determine the difference between 'good' fatigue and 'bad' (i.e overtraining) fatigue? Thanks!

comment Ways to increase your energy level
@Curtis-good answer, just wondering if you would know how if you need more calories to support training and increase energy? I'm gaind muscle mass so obviously I'm eating more calories than I need, but still my training is't improving and I'm lacking energy. Increase my calories more? Thanks!

comment Gymming without supplements
@Tarun, I still am experiencing the same symptoms. Nothing that I do seems to be helping it unfortunately. I have quite a healthy diet and I do think that perhaps I am not eating enough, even though I feel like I eat alot. I always have no energy and feel weak so I put that down to lack of food as well. Have you tried any other changes?
