@DaveLiepmann I understand. Apologies for the repost as an answer, I deleted it. I will try to make a "dope" response soon, ;-).

@DaveLiepmann do you mean a full explanation of the exercises or just a repost?

Agree with BackInShapeBuddy. Medicine ball tosses in general build functional strength IMO most effectively. I would do a lot of sitting MB russian twist throws (feet in the air) for distance, bar twists, land mines w/ barbell, walking lunge twists w/ plate, walking twists w/ plate. I have found those to be the most beneficial for rotational strength & power (do this for 4-5 months then test out your golf drive!)

great information, dunno about agreeing with the ideal weight aspect but I see you're providing general information as a template to look at.

comment Can I get away with just doing pull-ups for lats?
Make the DB or BB Pullovers your best friend. Try different variations either bent-arm or straight arm to really work on the ribcage and those lats. If you do this consistently for a year, increase the reps/weights/etc come back to this forum and tell me what the result was for achieving lat strength or that V-taper :-) (I know you mentioned you don't like a massive V-taper but this is an excellent exercise for your lats and for your body --> see it basically as a reverse C yoga stretch with weight)

comment Muscles shorten when working out - why do I feel this most strongly in the lower back?
Sometimes addressing the muscle which is causing you the problem is not the solution. That's what makes physical therapists so effective because they realize where the problem is coming from. For example lower back tightness could stem from your hamstring tightness. I had to engage in an intensive self-myofacial release program with a foam roller to roll out my IT bands and hamstrings to ease the lower back tightness. Additionally the abdominal muscles are probably weak causing your back to literally do "all the work". See if that might help any bit...

comment Is a vibrating belt not effective in reducing tummy fat?
Whoever invented it is a marketing genius. Finding the "get ripped fast" method is the new farce in our society. So many idiots went out and bought them believing that simply sitting will deliver results. I liked watching those commercials but I loved seeing the reaction from certain people.

@BackInShapeBuddy well put. According to what you mentioned I completely agree that it is a better assessment for the general population.

comment What can I do to gain weight?
@BackInShapeBuddy, I agree with Dave's post that BMI is not an appropriate measure for health or weight. Otherwise almost all professionals athletes would be considered out of shape. Take a 6'4" guy who weighs 265pds, has unbelievable body composition but doesn't adher to the numbers on a BMI scale. Consider him obsese??

comment Eating more calories to improve performance?
@Bee I apologize for being so dramatic. Your post felt like you were quote "struggling" as you gently put it. Therefore I assessed your answers as a mild case of overreaching with a helpless structure of a program. Maybe displaying more information about your specific program, diet, day schedule could assist in a better answer, and not result in people in this forum upstaging one another based on complete general assumption of your program. Trust your coach who knows you best, and take other people's information with a grain of salt.
