comment How many sets per muscle?
Toning/shaping don't exist, no, but sculpting does. That's the exact philosophy and method used by Reg Park and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Stopping reps at a specific number to stay with in certain goals actually is a good idea. Overdo the reps and you could leave yourself fatigued for the next exercise in your workout. It also changes the type of progress that you're making.

@Mike S I have to disagree. Diet significantly strays from the original question. Bringing it up as an issue, and suggesting asking a new question specifically about it is quite appropriate.

comment How should a proper stretching workout look like? How to warm up for it?
@DaveLiepmann he asked about stretching in conjunction with a full warmup, i was responding to that

@DaveLiepmann did you read my 4th paragraph?

@DaveLiepmann how is doing an activity that requires strength while your strength has been decreased not a bad idea?

comment Should I get rid of my office chair ?
It will be uncomfortable for the first little while, but you'll get used to it quite quickly. I haven't met anyone in security who complained about foot problems.

@user981916 strength is a necessary foundation for any other kind of fitness, your current workout is espoused by bodybuilders, who are only interested in size.

@infoholic_anonymous definitely I would discourage it, even with anything else, stretching is still a bad idea

yeah, it could be related to the program. what you're describing a number of people would say is completely ineffective - that's probably a bit of an exaggeration, but i'd say it's true to an extent. have you tried a program like the texas method, stronglifts 5x5 or starting strength in the past?

comment Presses or squats first?
i realise my original question still wasn't clear despite my effort to rule out the bench press, still though this answer doesn't address my question even if it may address a different one

do you do barbell work only or do you also use dumbbells?

comment Presses or squats first?
i already mentioned brooks kubik who does presses before squats, he trains in the strongman style, which is a good enough analogue to powerlifting.

@DaveLiepmann maybe a study comparing muscle fatigue levels with different exercise order?

any studies. supporting this? it's really just conjecture as you've presented it, no more or less credible than kubik, but i'd like more as personal experience has told me both are fine

what exercises are you actually doing, and what weights?

Are you sure the 11lbs you lost is fat loss, and not muscle loss?

comment Is it okay to continue workouts while fasting?
@mebassett if I were doing that I think I'd stick to the first and second warmup sets, and just leave it at that. depending on the exercises you do, I might abbreviate the selection as well, down to 3 or 4.

@mebassett Do you normally do warmup sets?

comment How does doing more repetitions improve muscle definition?
I'm not sure about the definition part actually. If you want to train for strength you lift heavy weights, if you want to train for size (bodybuilding) you lift not quite as heavy weights for more reps. They might be mistaking 'more definition' with 'good for bodybuilders'
