comment Is it wrong to workout more than once a day?
It's just a bit of an exaggeration, that quote. I was far, far off Olympic records (didn't even podium finish for individual events in my final regional comp), but certainly was overtraining. I appreciate that your casual gym rat who's doing three sessions a week and starts worrying about overtraining perhaps doesn't need to be worried, but we don't need to swing so far the opposite that we say overtraining is only an issue for the very elite.

"Why is it that those most inclined to worry and ask about “overtraining” are about as likely to set a new record in the Olympic Decathlon as they are to ever overtrain?" - Disagree, despite asking about overtraining myself, I spent much of my high school swimming career overtraining as per the common symptoms (loss of appetite, poor muscle recovery, loss of motivation etc.). Overtraining is way more likely than that quote suggests. Perhaps less of a risk in hobbyist strength training circles, but once you start taking on athletic competitiveness, it's a real risk and it certainly sucks.

comment How important is it that a person be able to touch their toes?
"Your flexibility is inversely related to how injury-prone you are" - any sources to support this?

comment Max heart rate: is it bad to train in Zone 5 for 30 mins?
Nice question, something I've been wondering as well. I'm curious to find out if common workout symptoms & feelings are a trustworthy metric for HR max training, or if damage can unexpectedly crop up. Great graph too!

comment How to count laps while swimming?
Agree with @JohnP, though I wish I had done just a few practice races between major comps. I had done a lot of practice sets, but when it came to the annual comp, my inexperience with the full race distances made it hard to pick an appropriate pace.

@Quassnoi hopefully you don't share the lane with someone else who has the same idea ;)

comment Are there any disadvantages, besides discomfort, to letting water enter your nose?
Somehow I have the ability to push my upper lip against my nostrils for a sufficiently tight seal. So no need to exhale during backstroke push off the wall!

comment What physical endurance exercise can I fit into a 5-minute routine without any equipment?
Wow that's a quick warmup! I thought that you'd usually need at least 5 minutes for the warm up alone...

Doesn't tabata need a warmup?

comment Is weight loss possible without cardio?
"There's always swimming" - one of the things I love about swimming. Bad legs? Focus on pull. Bad arms? Focus on kick. I don't know of a sport that's more flexible than swimming.

comment Is rucking (running with weight in backpack) a bad idea?
Better yet, do your rucking on a soft sand beach if you're near one. Even less impact, and a greater muscular workout.

comment Breathing out during swimming freestyle
I agree that you breath as much as you need to, but in my swimming days I found that for proper sprints (e.g. 50 m), most would breath minimally - sometimes just 3 times during the race, or around 7 strokes a breath. It's predominantly anaerobic for those short distances, so breathing every stroke would be unhelpful.
