comment Making a training plan for medieval swordsmen / reenactment
I actually never saw any SCA fights in person, just the videos, so I cant really say how similar it is to what my friends are doing :) But as far as the question goes, I think those two disciplines are similar, only the joints get a lot more stress in reenactment and there is bigger resistance because of all the weight. I actually consider trying this myself. Any input and advice you may offer is happily recieved :)

Not exactly SCA, but in some ways similar. Those guys cut out the "creative" part from SCA and use as historical equipment as possible. Their swords are normally forged and hammered, only they are not sharpened. Same goes for the rest of the equipment. Their armour is as thick as historical, made in similar ways. This means its a bit more extreme than SCA. SCA has "NO METAL OR UNAPPROVED RIGID PLASTIC MAY BE USED IN THE STRIKING SURFACE OR SURFACES OF ANY WEAPON." while these guys work steel. SCA is lighter. Most knockouts happen in 5v5 and 21v21 fights, where halberds and similar are in use.

comment Does weight loss and exercise make back pain go away?
a word of caution about deadlifts and squats in case of back pain. The back and the spine are complex and whats good for one person might be bad for the other. Ive consulted a rehab specialist about my back and she told me to reduce weights on some exercises and forbidden doing some others, deadlifts among them. She also helped me establish correct for while doing squats. When in doubt, i recommend seeing a specialist.

comment Is it worth getting measured for running shoes?
Im not a runner myself, but i asked a runner friend of mine a similar question. I recall him saying something along the lines: If youre running only from time to time, most footware will be ok. But if youre a regular, an athlete, running daily or anything along these lines, it will be better for your joints, feet and back to get good shoes. Same applies to the surfaces youre running on. Once in a while wont kill you, but if you run frequently, you dont want to be running on concrete.

comment Does losing weight impede endurance training (Specifically cycling but also in general)?
Actually, JohnP is one of the most active and knowledgable members of physical fitness SE, and im guessing that this is quite an academic question. Ill be asking my friends from medschool for some meaningfull input on the matter

comment Exercises with one hand
Well, the OP wrote about pushups and pullups... Cant exactly picture him doing that with a broken arm. Sure, he can do some bent over dumbbel rows with small weight or dumbbell presses with the healthy arm, but thats not exactly what he was asking, right? He wanted to "work the muscles". As I read it, he wanted to continue training his healthy arm with normal intensity. Youre welcome to offer an answer with rehabilitation-like exercise program, but I wont do it, cause I dont know enough about that. I only advised against doing his regular intensity on 1 arm only while the other is immobilized

Im afraid thats not enough protein. The recommended amount is around 50g daily, and people doing resistance training should aim at 1g per 1kg of body mass, in Your case - around 80g. These are only approximations, it also depends on the type and intensity of your training sessions, and what you are trying to achieve. If you wanted to bulk up, you might need eat even more protein.
