Is it possible to self learn any hand combat skills or martial arts? Like @JoshuaCarmody said, yes, totally. It's possible not only to self learn, but even to master, but only IF you have enough practice. Internet/books/videos give you very little to none. You could gather a friend or two and practice a few jabs, kicks on each other, or a more dramatic way, start a figth on the streets every week, either are possible ways, but neither advisable. Unless that kind of person is unavailable you should practice with someone who already has a high level of skill and practice in teaching, an instructor. |

Should I take protein supplements with my regimen and, if so, how often? If your true objective is the army I suggest you do not focus "only" on lifting more weight but be able to expend strength for a long period of time, try to include some series of push ups and chin ups in your upper body strength training. Has for the lower body Taekwondo should had gave you some endurance, but some running(not on the days you hit the gym or you will overtrain and lose muscle) may make you entry in the army much easier. |

Arching the back during bench press I don't truly know if or why is dangerous. But if you need to arch to lift that much weight, maybe you will be better off doing less weight and focus on compressing your muscles and a good lift. |
