I'm passionate about coding and researching the history of technology as well as exploring where technology is leading.

I used to work in flight simulation doing both hardware implementation (electrical design, wiring), web development (design, development, webmaster), as well as software development (desktop development in C#).

I'm a big fan of both using and contributing to Open source projects.

I am the creator of the pypreprocessor library that can be found on PYPI as well as Google code.

comment Avoiding Tendinopathy (suggested rest interval to prevent chronic pain)
@JohnP OK, I removed the shin splints comment to avoid confusion. I didn't go from 'couch to crazy' as you say. I take regular rest days seriously and eat well. It's just my nature to drive for maximum potential. Also, anti-inflammatories wouldn't do much as there's no inflammation, it was just a little localized pain.

@DavidR I'm just extra cautious about tendon injuries because they take longer to recover from. By multiple times, I climb until my arms are toast, rest for a few hours and climb again until they're toast again. Before each session I also do 10 minutes on an exercise bike followed by some stretches to warm-up.

comment Do you need to “feel the burn” to become stronger?
Don't forget potassium. It helps to reduce the muscle soreness/cramps.

comment Is there a relation between muscle soreness and muscle progress?
Consuming more potassium and protein will also help recovery (reducing muscle soreness). Tendon pain is bad and can lead to chronic issues if not treated properly. That means, if you just pop a few ibuprofen and ignore the pain it's going to get worse.

comment Is it possible to become relatively fit without going for runs?
+1 I agree. HIIT leads to better muscle and fitness gains which translates to a higher overall caloric expenditure during both recovery and when you're not working out.

comment Is it bad to workout when you aren't sleeping a lot?
In addition. The stress caused by lack of sleep may lead to compulsive eating habits. Fight the urge to load up on junk and force yourself to munch on healthy snacks until you develop an appetite for them. Vegetables like cucumbers and celery that are mostly water are good options for filling up without all the calories.

comment What kind of workout regimen can get me back in it?
@Jeff Join the club. Anybody who manages to maintain a good level of fitness as they get older have most-likely been through the same process many times before. If the anger/frustration of trying to return to your old routine becomes counter-productive, just switch to a different routine/activity for a while. I'm in a similar position but am completely bored/uninterested with working out at a typical gym so I joined a rock climbing gym and do beach runs for cardio. Fitness is a lifelong pursuit, don't let boredom and angst get in the way.

comment How to avoid hyponatremia(drinking too much water) when hiking?
(cont) Think of it this way, consuming additional electrolytes stimulates absorption of water into the muscle mass. Whereas, preventing over-consumption by sipping smaller amounts of water over time reduces the amount your body has to overcompensate to maintain a healthy water balance.

comment How to avoid hyponatremia(drinking too much water) when hiking?
@Informaficker That's the problem. Too much water in the blood means the kidneys have to work much harder to maintain a healthy balance. Drinking more than the kidneys can effectively handle and may cause kidney damage or other problems (ex hyponatremia, cerebral edema). Food in the digestive tract will help slow absorption but for extended activities (hiking, endurance running) the impact of of that will be lessened over time.

comment When do our bodies burn our fat?
I'm calling BS on the 'zone training' theory. I have heard theory being parroted around for years with no conclusive evidence to prove it. I don't disagree about the carb intake point, it makes sense that your body would burn readily available stores of glycogen first before fat. I have personally tried the 'zone training' approach with poor results. I'd argue that building more Type II muscle mass and increasing your daily caloric expenditure will have a much greater effect overall (not just while training).

comment Effect of Sex/Male Orgasm on Athletic Performance
There may be no concrete physiological effect but I'd argue that there is a definite psychological factor. Pent up sexual energy can definitely be channeled into rage which is good for maintaining a high intensity during some sports. I doubt it would have any effect on endurance though.
