comment Is once-per-week training enough for building muscle
Good question @LarissaGodzilla regarding training effectiveness. I don't have a resource for that. I agree with your comment and would not recommend a once-per-week routine to anyone either. I imagine one could still make improvements if that were their only option, however.

The research indicates they erode within a certain time period. See the table in my answer. Also, "one day of exercise is not enough" -- enough for what? Seems subjective.

Any references on "any benefit you see in a day will have eroded by the 4th to 5th day."? Seems unfounded.

comment What exercises can I do to improve the muscles supporting the thoracic spine?
Thanks for the suggestion. I can see how that would help. I'll give them a shot!

comment Is There a Fitness / Activity Tracker which Measures Heart Beat Rate?
@rrirower Well, thanks to the upcoming wearable tech, they can be worn all day. People want a more accurate representation of activity level than a pedometer can provide. They want to be able to track their heart rate all day. That is why these products exist. And no, it's not just my opinion. I imagine most everyone would agree it's more comfortable to wear a fitness band all day than a chest strap, and it's more convenient for a number of reasons. The point can be argued, but what's that got to do with the poster's question?

@rrirower Because if you want to wear it all day, it's not comfortable, difficult to take off and put on, and looks strange under a dress shirt.

comment How long does it take to heal shin splint?
When I first started running, I would get the same symptoms. I was in good cardio shape, but my legs weren't used to the impact. I was also using poor running form. I tried a few times to start running again after thinking I had healed, but the symptoms returned. Here's what you should do: study proper running form so as to reduce the amount of impact on your bones, allow yourself time to heal (maybe 2-3 weeks before you try ANY running), then start very, very gradually to get up to your 6-7km runs. Maybe run 1-2km twice the first week, 2-3km twice the second week, etc.
