comment How to breathe in lifts requiring tight core (squats, deadlifts)
I think your question is excellent. I would vote it up twice if I could. Very detailed, very well-written, and very thought-out. This is an exemplary question.

comment Lower back pain during heavy squats
@VictorySaber, you might want to check out these two videos for squat form reference: [1], [2]. If you have a hard time with these positions, work on mobility.

Well, smith squatting opens a lot of doors for dysfunction and is generally considered a "bad" movement. Your pain is most likely due to using this exercise rather than free weights. Visit this link for more information

comment Would deloading for a month in order to help fix my lifting form ultimately detrain me?
I wouldn't be fasting if I were you. I'd be trying to eat as much as possible. With your lifts I'd guess you weight about 140 lbs. Do SS or 5/3/1 for a year solid and eat at a surplus. If you're at 140lbs, 16% BF, that's ~22lbs of fat. If you put on 15 lbs of muscle and kept the same amount of bodyfat, you'd at 13% BF. IMO get your squat to 225 and your deadlift to 285+ and don't step on a scale or calculate your bodyfat until you do. Worry about the fat later, it comes off much more easily than muscle.

My guess is that you aren't using good form. You probably aren't keeping your knees out the entire time, which causes the pelvis to tip down in the back (aka butt wink). That has a tendency to put a lot of the load on the low back. Just to give us an idea of your experience, what is your 1RM back squat? What form are you using? (e.g., high bar, low bar, below parallel, above parallel, etc)

You want to get the dumbbells to your shoulders without cleaning them?

I've seen a lot of complaints about the usefulness of pedometers on fitness bands. I'm waiting for one of the bands to come out with a built-in heart rate monitor. It must be difficult, because none of them do it. This is coming out at the end of the year and looks kinda cool: uncrate.com/stuff/atlas-fitness-tracker

@JayDee When you squat, do you go past parallel? Are your heels on the ground? I ask because I feel full-range squats would go a long way in solving your problems.

comment Good exercise for when all your muscles are sore?
Soreness (from DOMS) isn't really a valuable indicator for whether or not you should work that muscle. A cursory google search will corroborate. Just get warmed up and stick to your routine, you'll be fine.
