Planks are so effective. There are lots of variations and if the various positions don't challenge you enough, just hold for longer.

Agree! I wanted to add doing planks (if he isn't already) which is easy to increase in difficulty without extra equipment (there are SO many variations).

+1 for great photo. I really don't like BMI as a quantitative measure for health.

comment How do you motivate yourself to keep exercising?
I used to be very close-lipped about my goals but by being open about them, you really hold yourself accountable and I believe your possibility for success greatly increases.

I use the mirror and how clothes fit as my gauge too. I'm pretty dense so people are always surprised by my weight.

comment strengthing and improving flexibility in heels
Just to be clear: there are different kinds of squats and thus different forms. The plie squat is one where you are on your toes for both feet and the bulgarian split squat you are on your toes for one foot. Deeper squats like sumo squat are considered "safe" and depends on your flexibility. I agree that for the "classic" front squat your feet should not lift off but how deep you go depends on the person (some people can go deeper).

+1 for caring more about form than lifting heavier weights!
