comment Barefoot Running Effective for Improving Squat?
why barefoot running anyhow? Try one legged squats, with the front foot on a cushion, or better, those round inflated plastic discs used in physiotherapy. Even both feet if you can manage. Your ankles will work hard balancing out the entire motion. GL

+1 interesting revelations. Unfortunately I never had the luck to see documents of this type in my countries facility, however I would love to lay eye on those documents. Just out of curiosity.

comment Is this a good weight lifting routine for a 13 year old?
@Freakyuser I support that. Think it through, it's not worth taking any risks. Build a good base physique now and you will explode when you start lifting really heavy weights in 5 years.

comment Fitness and weight loss for dancing
+1 for this approach. Body weight exercises mentioned by Stormtroopr are the way to go Emily. Weight loss makes absolutely no sense for you.

@LegoStormtroopr "The risk of injury to the growth plates can be further minimized by not allowing the athletes to lift weight over their heads or perform maximum effort lifts (i.e. performing one repetition lifting as much weight as they can). A general rule of thumb when working with younger athletes is to have them only exercise with weights that they can lift six times or more" quote from - creightonprep.creighton.edu/uploaded/Athletics_Page/Weight_Room/…

@LegoStormtroopr your joking right? Have you looked at their proposed routine? Its not the deadlift or squat, it's how they do them! They can squat around all day as long as they have no bar on their shoulders. Hop around like frogs, that's what they should do. Anything below 10 is at least 5 reps short of resistance training. Your opinion is in contradiction with your own sources because you failed to see that the proposed routine IS NOT resistance training.

@LegoStormtroopr your source amongst most others explicitly refers to "resistance training", followed or preceded by a warning of caution and safe execution with expert supervision. These two thirteen year old boys are planning to powerlift! Are you oblivious to this important distinction? Also, them asking if it is a good routine on stachexchange does not qualify as competent supervision. I am mesmerized at how easily you value the health of two youngsters, giving them advice of which you obviously cannot fully see the consequences.

comment Is this a good weight lifting routine for a 13 year old?
@LegoStormtroopr No it is absolutely not fine. You should be really careful with this suggestion. Low weight and high reps I agree (30 reps and more per set). But what Outlaw Lemur suggests is consistently many sets with only 3 reps. Imagine what this does to their growth plates, cartilage, joints. I would tread with care, how big a problem is it to wait 2-3 years?

Shouldn't be lifting weights at that age. Wait at least another 3 years! In the meantime, train with your own body weight.

revised Can't seem to do a proper bench press … any reasons as to why?
added two tags, corrected some spelling, formatting, and most important: restricted repetitive information to make the question more clear and concise.

comment Running speed versus running power - is there a difference?
+1 That's exactly the point. First one must decide what speed is considered: the maximum value of meters covered each second, or 'minimizing' the time required to cover a longer distance.
