comment hip and oblique muscle imbalance
@BerinLoritsch I have been doing BSS to touch the elevated leg's knee to an 1.5 inch high padding placed on the floor. Thigh looks almost parallel to the floor, not sure exactly. Should the elevated leg knee be touching the floor actually?

I have been doing Bulgarian split squats since a week or two but it turns out, I have been doing only as much as my weaker side can handle... Will try the other way....

comment Just found a hemorrhoid. Should I lift this friday?
I have also face similar issue. Mine was because I tried to squat more weight than I could handle and my breathe went haywire - I exhaled when squatting down and then gulped in between. I have read somewhere that pushing the air downwards when squatting weights can cause hemorhhoids. I found that strengthening core helped get rid of it but it relapses if I get sedentary and spend too much time sitting. And I so agree by what Berin said about role of breathe in providing core stability..

comment Yoga for muscle imbalances?
Didn't get.. why it wouldn't restore strength balance? Do you mean it wouldn't be good enough if I was already lifting heavy but unequally? If so, I used to do bodyweight exercises and endurance type workout with light weights.

comment lying Leg raises, hand under head
I think I get the exercise the OP is trying to depict - Lying leg raise, with hand behind the ears, head and shoulder off the ground like in crunches (although OP hasn't mentioned this part). I came across this exercise in Jillian Micheals' Yoga Meltdown dvd. This version of lying leg raise makes me feel more on my lower back and abs than one with hands lying on floor near hips.

comment Powerlifting and form
The coach I am considering trains powerlifters who win at national and inetrnational level. Is that good enough a guarantee about the form he uses? No idea about how those athletes improve, will have to find that out...

comment Powerlifting and form
@JordanCarroll, I personally don't think of body builders as using bad form - I just happened to trained under one who taught me bad form sometime back. I was only trying to tell that sometimes, powerlifters and body builders have antagonistic view towards each other and I am confused...

comment How can I avoid building a lot of muscle while gaining strength
I have bit of doubt in this regard. If one wants to increase strength but not interested in hypertrophy, then is it ok to depend on appetite to decide how much to eat? I have read in some articles that not eating enough and lifting heavy is a dangerous prospect. Is eating according to appetite 'enough' in this case?

comment How to engage chest muscles
Yes, besides form, I can also see myself doing very little back/pull exercises when I look back. Can you tell me one more thing Berin? I find myself keeping my shoulders sloppy and sagging down when doing front/side plank or rising from a push up. Only recently I discovered this one and now I think I can consciously push my body away from floor to keep shoulders tight (although I haven't tried doing this because I still have pain to work with). Could this (sagging shoulders) also be a reason for my chest not getting engaged in push ups? Any thoughts?
