Eating before workout You absolutely eat before, perhaps during, and after a 120 minute workout, regardless of what kind of workout it is. Eat light, but eat. Prevent cramps and overtraining. |

Body angle during freestyle I am a Masters and USA-S coach. I do utilize TI techniques for myself and my swimmers but am not affiliated. |

What are equivalent swimming and running speeds? This is the best conversion I have seen, but many triathletes are swimmers as an afterthought so comparing a dedicated swimmer with a dedicated runner might bring a different result. Also, a 100m comparison, with water resistance at speed, won't compare closely to distance. |

Swimming for muscle building and fat burn In my youth I was a good regional/state swimmer at 6' and 185lb, and extremely lean. While cross training with weights helps, much of it has to do with avoiding overtraining and focusing on power and sprinting. |

Open water swimming in winter To take this a little further, ALWAYS swim with a lookout in a boat or on shore in cold water. Once you are hypothermic it may be impossible to save yourself, and even if you are usually ok, all it takes is one bad day. |

How to strengthen the “foot muscle” When I am walking for cross-training I usually wear them. I sometimes do 3-5 mile hikes at a fast pace using them, but I had to start with less. For going to the store I'm more likely to wear shoes or sandals. |

What are the best ways for a beginner to ease into running? And while waiting for the book to arrive from Amazon start walking a LOT now. As you get more comfortable with it, go faster and further. You'll be a better runner for it and will be less injury prone as you ramp it up. |
