Mar 6, 2021 at 20:44 comment added Nobody @IvoFlipse In my experience it's the opposite - intense intervals never hurt me in any way, while the length of the runs needs to be built up slowly, no matter how fast or slow I go, otherwise joints will complain. I'm inclined to say that with a good running technique, sprints/short intervals shouldn't cause pain (beyond some burning sensation in the muscles), while it's inevitable that longer distances will cause pain if you aren't accomodated.

May 9, 2011 at 20:37 comment added Ivo Flipse The reason I don't like 'too much' high intensity intervals is because my legs hurt a lot more during those intervals. So I think the advice might also be dependent on your condition. If you're not in sufficient shape yet, those high intensities might be too hard for your muscles or soft tissue.
