Semi-retired high-school teacher of mathematics, chemistry and science. Undergraduate degrees in Kinesiology-Applied Health Sciences, and Education. Previously active in intercollegiate rugby in the OUA. Experienced youth sport coach in hockey, football, soccer; also a youth soccer referee.
My main area of interest is encouraging mobility in those entering middle age; preserving joint mobility and suppleness, standing walking and sitting posture, changing eating and sleeping habits to fight off chronic illness; exercises using body-centred resistance and movement to improve balance, synergy of movement between muscle groups, and using weight training and weight bearing and aerobic exercises in ways that preserve strength, balance, posture, overall mobility and avoid destructive activities.
Beset by many health problems from a young age, I've had to develop a different philosophy of exercise that the patterns I used to play high intensity sports. No, it's about preserving body, tissues, balance, mobility, brain, gut, heart... to live an active, positive life until 90 I hope, and to see my children's children's children.
